Keynote: Building a great DevRel career
Questions about career paths aren’t unique to Developer Relations. Everyone in every profession has them. But the answers aren’t as clear for us as they are for others. I’ve spent my entire 26-year career in developer platforms working on some of the largest developer businesses and successful (and failed!) startups. I’ve been responsible for Visual Studio, Amazon Web Services, Facebook Platform, Twitter Platform, Azure Cloud Advocacy, and countless products that have long since been forgotten. I’ve worked in every role in Developer Relations: Advocacy, Product Marketing, Growth Marketing, and more, as both an individual contributor and executive. I’ve experienced the highs and lows of the job and have had to restart my career at least twice.
In this session, I’ll walk you through how to navigate the Developer Relations profession, how to build a career full of options, and how to establish your value to every size organization. This session will be full of career anecdotes, the good and the bad, and numerous practical examples of how to choose roles, companies, managers, and co-workers, how to negotiate compensation, and how to Always Be Looking for your next gig. I’ve been there. I’m here to help.
